1.     When did you begin CF?

April, 2012

2.     What is your favourite movement? Least favourite?

My favorite movement is the Snatch.  I love the explosive nature of the movement and the superman feeling you get when you are holding the barbell high over your head.  There are no movements I strongly dislike, but if I had to pick a least favorite, it would probably be Wall Balls.  They are just plain exhausting.

3.     What accomplishment in CF are you most proud of?

When I began CrossFit, I was usually the last person to finish the workout or far behind the pack when running.  Now, I can keep up with all the other athletes during the workouts.  Just being able to hold my own is what makes me the most proud.

4.     What 3 goals are you focusing on?

My primary goal is fitness: losing fat, gaining muscle, and improving endurance.  The specific goals I am focusing on right now, though, are to be able to do a single unassisted pull-up for the first time in my life, to be able to climb a rope, and to improve my running endurance.

5.     If you could say one thing about your experience at CrossFit BWI, what would it be?

My experience at CrossFit BWI has changed my self-perception.  Before, I never thought I could be a physically fit person.  I thought I would always be overweight and unfit.  When I started CrossFit, I didn’t even think I would be able to stick with it and keep coming to WODs after the first month.  I am actually shocked at how rewarding and fun my time at CrossFit BWI has been.  I never thought I would be the type of person who enjoys working out.  Now I know that I’ll never be that unfit person again.

6.     What motivates you to keep going strong during the WOD’s?

The other athletes and the coaches are what motivate me during a workout.  The other athletes offer encouragement and set an example of high performance.  Seeing their achievements motivates me to make my own.  The coaches are also great motivators.  It is clear they want me succeed, and their sincerity makes me want to rise to their expectations and not let them down.

7.     Anything extra you want to add?

I started a journey to fitness on my own by improving my diet and beginning to exercise at home, but I would never have achieved the results I have without CrossFit and the coaches at CrossFit BWI, especially Chris, Christa, Jess and Brad.  So far, I have lost 100 pounds, learned to love lifting weights, and gone from running out of breath while climbing stairs to running for the fun of it.  Thanks!
